A Rose Is A Rose Is A Rose Contest
Today is day two in my attempt to post something every day. We have a lot to catch up on, so let's hope I can make this happen. Also, one of the posts will include FREE KNITTING PATTERNS, so be sure to stay tuned.Kiki says thanks for the kind words on yesterday's post about her handspun shawl. We posted a while back about the actual spinning process. You can get to it here.
As all you faithful readers know, we recently went to San Diego for vacation. So today I am going to post some more vacation pictures! I know looking at vacation photos of someone else's vacation is about as much fun as reading one of those really "bloggy" blogs. Hopefully my photos aren't that bad.
I love to photograph roses. So much in fact that under the images section of our website roses warrant their own section along with people, places, things, floral, and what's new (circa 2003). Anyway, the best place that I have found to photograph roses is the Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden in Balboa Park in San Diego. The best time of the year must be late October. The light was just about perfect & there were hundreds of roses in bloom. Unfortunately this was the last stop on our trip, which means I ran out of film (Agfa Ultra) & digital storage (Nikon Coolpix 2500). Of course, without running out, how else would I have known I was finished.
I have posted a few of my favorites, but there is an expanded selection here. You can also get here by clicking on any of the roses pictured in this post. Hope you enjoy.
By the way, photographs and cards make great holiday gifts. I'm thinking of making a rose calendar if anyone would be interested.
Leave a comment, let me know which rose is your favorite (they are numbered here). I am such a sucker for comments, let's make this a contest. At the end of the week I will randomly select a winner from all the commenters and send them a print of their favorite rose. Can't decide which you like best, leave a comment for each one you like.
Steve

p.s. Knitting content tomorrow, I promise.

Really gorgeous roses. I can't truly pick between rose #19 and rose #32, but perhaps lean towards 19. Number 6 is my third place favorite. Very hard to choose!
I vote for #10 and #19, although they are all breathtaking!
10! 10! 10! I like number 10 and orange kit kats, and that's it.
Wow, Steve, gorgeous pictures! How can you make us choose a favorite? 6 is my very favorite because I love rosebuds and you really captured how delicate it is. 28 is my second favorite because I love the colors. And all the rest are my third favorite! LOL
My vote goes to # 8. I like the unusually colored ones.
But they're all so nice.
#2! I think you should have a picture of Rose Canfield too. She's from San Diego! :)
Gorgeous pictures, Steve! #8 is the most beautiful - it looks like my Megan. #2 is awesome, warm like the sunshine. #10 is the best shot - you are so very talented. Anyway- those are my choices - nothing can be easy - can never choose only one - kinda like Lay's potato chips. Hugs and kisses to your 3 girls.
I love roses, too, dear LusciousGracious Family. I like #9, because there are two and because they look like they have polka dots.
The other day I thought about y'all when I took my mom around to see the autumn leaves here in Terre Haute, IN. Seasons are still amazing to me, even after 14 years since my transplant from Miami. It was very windy, and on some tree-rich streets, the leaves were swirling and dancing all around the car, a leafy rain...it was loverly.
They are all so beautiful - and I can't decide between roses 6 and 10. Stunning. Simply Stunning.
I like the last rose picture, the one just before the p.s. But I can take rose pictures too. Only trouble is I can't work out how to send them this way. Wait and an email will be winging its way.

#35, #30, #28 are my favorites in that order.... Flowers are some of my favorite things to take pictures of.... They don't talk back, they don't need their hair and makeup done... and when you squirt them with a water spray bottle they look even better ;-)
Hey... did you ever decide what the prize would be for knowing Monkey?? If the answer is a "swift kick in the butt" that is ok... you just have to come visit to do that.... I miss you guys!! The gals too!!! Give them a hug for me!

I think number 2 is gorgeous. I like 6 and 10 also, but if I have to pick one, it's 2. They're all beautiful!
Number 6 and Number 30. Definitely.
I'm late, but my fave is rose number 30. She reminds me of those really great photos you get of a baby from behind, and you can see the sweet little curves in their neck and ears and cheeks, and they have absolutely no idea how unbelievably beautiful they are or that you caught it on film forever.
I am also a big fan of numbers 19, 20, and 34 for their perfection in imperfection and unabashed wonkiness.
Thanks for such great pics to browse!! I'll be watching for that calendar!
I am in love with rose #08 - dyeing inspiration!
Happy Birthday :D
Number 10 is probably my favorite..but I think I like number 30 equally.
I love picture #02. They are all lovely, but that one is my favourite. :)
Oops, just realised that what I thought of as rose #02 (on the blog) is in reality rose #01 in the slide show.
My favorite is # 4 with $ 10 running a very close second. But honestly...all are beautiful!!
I like rose 12 and rose 30-
I like 12 because it shows that beauty isn't permanent and 30 because I have never thought of looking at a flower from this angle, it is like seeing the world from the flower's eye.
